I am writing to apply for the assistant teacher position at XYZ. For the last four years, I have been working at Teach for America and the Baltimore public school system, teaching reading and writing skills to elementary school students. In that time, I have increased scores by 10% for students between the ages of 6 and 8 for verbal and essay questions in standardized tests.
I was drawn to your school immediately because of your thorough cultural, gender, and religious tolerance programs that start children at an early age with a deep respect for their own and each other's origins and beliefs. I strongly believe that teachers exist to help students interact with their peers and the world in a healthy, respectful manner.
The last four years have taught me the challenges and value of teaching students who are still developing their worldview. I have been working mainly with African-American and Latinx students from low-income families in the inner city. Just as much as academic skills, I have found myself learning to present open, balanced, and informed social structure in a setting that is widely diverse and often bilingual and multicultural. Being exposed to these experiences, so different from my own, has taught me patience and understanding when dealing with a spectrum of behaviors and learning curves.
I look forward to speaking with you further about XYZ's vision for an inclusive learning environment. I appreciate your consideration. Thank you for your time.
